Throughout the autumn term, Vickki has been working with a dedicated group of Health Champions at Barr Beacon School in Walsall. We have been updating on their progress during the last few months, but they have now delivered their final alcohol awareness campaign.

The goal of the campaign was to educate people of the dangers of alcohol, including the long and short term effects. They intended to do this by raising awareness of the law around alcohol, and clarifying what alcoholic units are. They made the decision to communicate this message through assemblies, PSHE lessons, and display and media boards.

The students led two assemblies aimed at the Year 7 students, and the display and media boards were set up for all students, staff and visitors to see. The PSHE lesson, which was delivered to the Year 10 students, fit into the school’s PSHE curriculum. The staff who observed the lesson commented that is was delivered to a very high standard and they may utilise it as part of lesson plans in the future.

The Health Champions received some excellent feedback from their audiences. They commented that the messages delivered “were useful” and it made them think about their life choices surrounding alcohol. The information regarding alcoholic units was delivered in a quiz format, and this was described as “interesting and useful”.

The Health Champions were very pleased with the feedback they received, and their campaign was a huge success. Well done to all of the students who delivered in this campaign!

Our Health Champions Scheme is open to all groups of students, and fits perfectly within a PSHE or enrichment lesson. Contact our Development Officers for more information.
