We were once again invited to attend the City of Wolverhampton College Health Fair at the beginning of March, and this year our display covered three relevant topics:

  • Calories in alcohol and the impact of ‘drunkorexia’
  • Kidney health, highlighting World Kidney Day
  • The effects of smoking and advice on how to quit, supporting No Smoking Day

Along with our informative display boards, we also took a range of interactive resources to help reinforce the messages we were delivering. As well as providing an element of shock factor, the resources are an excellent visual representation of some of the realities of smoking and excessive drinking.

Some of the resources we took to the health fair included the ‘Smoked Foot’ (demonstrating the risk of developing gangrene through tobacco use) and the ‘Foul Mouth’ (showing the many serious effects smoking has on the mouth).

The event also provided an opportunity for us to give away some of our new free hand-outs, including our ‘How to Quit Smoking’ wallet-sized guides.

The two days we exhibited at the Paget Road and Wellington Road campuses were a huge success. Not only did we raise awareness of these important topics with a view to improve student health, but many staff also became involved and were able to take something away from the stand. Regular visitors to the health fair commented on how much they enjoyed our stand as the level of information and quality of resources was always excellent.
