This year, Macmillan Cancer Support are challenging people to go sober and raise money to help people living with cancer. If you don’t fancy the full challenge of going sober for the entire month, there are also shorter options of a 14 or 21 day challenge.

All you have to do to take part is go to their website:, select how long you would like to take on the challenge for (14, 21, or 31 days) and ask family and friends to donate to you, which will help people living with cancer.

There are many benefits to going sober, including a healthier body, happier bank balance and a better sleeping pattern. All the while you will be raising money for a good cause. Since its launch in 2014, Sober October has raised £25million, which has made a great difference to the lives of people with cancer. This money goes to:

  • Macmillan nurses
  • Information and support centres
  • Support line services
  • Information and support busses
  • Cancer information resources
  • Macmillan health professionals
  • Financial support
  • Campaigning for change
