We are supporting the campaign to reduce the legal drink drive limit across
England and Wales!
At present, the limits are 80mg of alcohol for every 100ml of blood – this is higher than any other European country (except for Northern Ireland and Malta which are both planning to reduce their levels).
In 2014 Scotland lowered its levels to 50mg and police figures demonstrated a 12.5% decrease in drink drive offences in the first nine months.
Drink driving statistics are undisputable.
- It costs £800 million annually
- Every year there are 8,000 casualties
- Since 2010 there have been 240 deaths recorded
- 60% of people killed in a drink drive incident are not the driver
Anyone can become a victim of drink driving, and you can make a difference!
The Institute of Alcohol Studies are encouraging everybody to contact their local MP to show their support for this groundbreaking campaign.
With Organisations such as the RAC Foundation, BRAKE, The AA, and the Police Federation all in agreement to lower the limit, we have a real opportunity to change the laws which keep us safe.
