Location: St Francis of Assisi School, Walsall

Event: Health Champions Scheme

Awareness Topics: Alcohol Awareness

During January and February Vickki has been working with a new group of Health Champions. Several Year 8 students in a local Catholic secondary school focussed on alcohol awareness, and developed a campaign entitled ‘Limits 4 U’. They wanted to inform their peers of the consequences of drinking alcohol and the effects it can have on the body including vision and appearance. They felt it was important to give their peers the correct tools to say “no” to alcohol if someone tried to give it to them.

The school leadership team wanted the delivery of this campaign to be shown around the school on their digital information screens. Each member of the group focussed on a subtopic and completed several information slides each. The areas covered were: ‘units’, ‘effects on the body’, ‘effects on appearance’, ‘through the eyes of drunk’ and ‘top tips to say “no” to alcohol’.

The group have now finished and their campaign will be going live around the school soon. The group will be celebrating their achievements with a tea party, where the Head of the school and Vickki have been invited to share and reward the Health Champions with their certificates and goody bags from White Ribbon Association.
