Location: Various Schools
Event: Awareness Assemblies
Awareness Topics: No Smoking Day
Throughout No Smoking Week, our Development Officer Vickki was exceptionally busy promoting this important awareness event. Vickki delivered ten assemblies within two schools covering all age groups from Year 7-13 (11-18 year olds) and reaching over 2,000 pupils.
The main message of these assemblies was how smoking can affect the body, particularly appearance. To reinforce this message we showed a short video clip of a young woman aging each time she inhales the smoke from a cigarette, and students seemed shocked by this new approach.
We were also asked by the Assistant Principal of one school to include some information about the dangers of e-cigarettes and why they should not be sold to anyone under the age of 18.
Students were directed to NHS Smoke Free where they could obtain further information on help to quit.
One of the schools will be continuing the delivery of the assemblies’ message by hosting our No Smoking Day health information display until the end of the month, so students will be able to pick up a number of leaflets surrounding the topic of tobacco use.
