Location: Asda Supermarket, Shirley, Solihull

Event: Health Event Stand

Awareness topics: Christmas Drink and Drug Driving and Dry January

Continuing our work with Asda in Shirley, Solihull, Vickki and Alison were invited back to deliver another Health Event stand in December to raise awareness of the Christmas Drink and Drug Driving Campaign. As well as delivering this important message, they also displayed information on Dry January, promoting the challenge of staying sober during January in support of Alcohol Concern.

To reinforce the point that alcohol can stay in the body for longer than expected, Vickki and Alison took along the ‘alcohol clock’ activity, which encourages participants to work out how long it takes for the system to remove alcohol. They also used the ‘units challenge’ game so passers-by could attempt to measure out the units in various alcoholic drinks.

We had support from the local Police Community Support Officer, who was happy to try out some of the activities including the alcohol impairment goggles. A nearby school was also fundraising at the store, so Vickki and Alison were able to interact with several of the students who showed an interest in the activities and wanted to share what they knew about alcohol and its effects.

This was the last community event at Asda for 2015, but throughout the last three months we have been able to raise awareness of a number of health related issues. If you would like to book our Development Officers to deliver any health event stands related to the impact of drugs, alcohol, tobacco and gambling, get in touch today!
