As part of our fundraising and promotional events during 2015, on Thursday 22nd October we hosted an open coffee morning in support of Breast Cancer Now – the UK’s largest breast cancer awareness charity. As well as being an opportunity to raise funds for important research into breast cancer prevention and treatment, it was also a chance for the White Ribbon Association to ‘open our doors’ and showcase the valuable work we are doing within the community.

We chose to focus on breast cancer awareness because recent scientific research has proven a link between alcohol consumption and the development of breast cancer. One of the aims of our community and educational work is to highlight the risks associated with alcohol. Through the research work undertaken by organisations such as Breast Cancer Now, we are able to pass this information onto the individuals we work with enabling them to make informed choices about their lifestyles. Without continued support through fundraising events, crucial research such as this may not be able to continue!

We promoted the event throughout the local area, as well as advertising on our Asda stand at the beginning of October and through networking events which Vickki attended. The staff generously made a variety of delicious cakes and biscuits to keep our guests fed, and in keeping with the ‘Wear it Pink’ theme, we all wore an item of pink clothing and festively decorated the offices with pink bunting.

Due to the autumnal weather, we were confined to the inside of Headquarters and were unable to use the beautiful garden as we had at our Macmillan coffee morning back in June. This didn’t detract from the enjoyable time we all had! We had a steady number of guests throughout the morning, including local residents who wanted to support the cause.

We raised over £100 at the event; with all proceeds being passed onto Breast Cancer Now. An enormous thank you to everyone who attended, we very much hope you enjoyed your visit to HQ!
