As part of Fresher’s Week and to welcome new students to the college, Alison and Rachel were invited to deliver a health awareness stand at The Sixth Form College, Solihull.
We have worked with the college many times before, but this was a new opportunity for Year 12 students who were just starting to be introduced to the work of the White Ribbon Association. This was particularly useful for those wishing to take part in the college’s Health Ambassador Scheme or who study health related courses and need to deliver their own campaigns.
As an example of how we can help students and the type of information we deliver, we took two displays along with us; Drinking Responsibly and Understanding Smoking. To accompany the displays, we bought a number of interactive resources, such as the Alcohol Impairment Goggles, Units Challenge Activity and Carbon Monoxide Testing Machine.
During the two days, we had a steady flow of students throughout the break and lunch periods, and some tutors bought their groups down to the stand to try the activities. We also had a number of staff try the resources. The Units Challenge was especially popular, and many commented they were surprised at their own knowledge of alcoholic units.
The event was a great way to introduce our organisation and demonstrate ways we can work with the students at the college. We look forward to assisting with many more projects and events in the future!
