As part of our Health Champions Scheme, Vickki worked with the Year 7 students at St Francis of Assisi school to develop a ‘Fun in the Sun’ campaign to be delivered to their peers in the whole school.
The students worked very hard to create an effective campaign, and identified their own slogan and campaign character.
The students decided the key messages they wanted to emphasise would be:
- Alcohol can be dangerous when used in the sun or when you have too much
- Under 18’s should not drink alcohol
- Alcohol and the sun both dehydrate you
- You need to protect your skin by applying sun cream regularly no matter what your skin tone is
They then decided which methods should be used to deliver the campaign. They agreed on a short awareness film, a leaflet and a PowerPoint Presentation
Each of the students was tasked with a particular role to fulfil to ensure the workload was fairly distributed.
After the campaign, the students were able to evaluate what had worked well and what would be reviewed if they ran the campaign again. The students adapted well when they were unable to undertake various aspects they had planned.
Certificates of achievement where handed to the group for delivering an excellent campaign and completing the Health Champions Scheme.
