Vickki was invited to deliver a health event stand which focused on our ‘Fun in the Sun’ Holiday Safety campaign to the students at the Sixth Form College. The event was also supported by the Health Ambassadors from the college who had created a beach hut theme to draw attention to the stand. Several of them handed out sun cream and non-alcoholic cocktails to their peers.

A number of interactive resources were used on the stand including the units challenge game; a popular activity which encourages students to think about the amount of alcoholic units they drink. Many were shocked at the number of units they were preloading before a night out.

The drunk goggles and ATM game enabled Vickki to discuss the dangers of using a cash machine when drunk, and students were asked to think of safer alternatives such as withdrawing enough money before a night out.

The Spikeys were particularly well-received and reinforced an important message surround the dangers of drink spiking and ways to prevent this happening.

Vickki was also able to highlight the dangers holidaymakers might face with regards to alcohol, drugs, gambling and staying safe around water. This was especially important for those students who may be going on holiday for the first time without parents before university.
