In support of No Smoking Day, we were invited by the Sixth Form College, Solihull, to deliver a health event focussed on the harmful effects of smoking.

The event was held in the refectory during the lunch period when the maximum number of students could be engaged with. As well as our eye-catching displays providing information on E-Cigarettes, Shisha Tobacco and the general health effects of smoking, we took along a variety of interactive resources. This included the ‘Smoked Foot’, diseased lungs, jars of tar and ‘Foul Mouth’.

The theme of this years No Smoking Day was ‘Proud to be a Quitter’. Therefore we encouraged visitors to the stand to write messages of encouragement to smokers which would motivate them to quit. Health Ambassadors from the college were also running carbon monoxide testing, checking the levels of carbon monoxide in the system of those who do and don’t smoke.

Our many free hand-outs were very well received; particularly the wallet-sized ‘5 Steps to Quitting’ guide. The health ambassadors did an excellent job in supporting us by breaking away from the stand to engage with their peer’s one on one.
