We were invited by St Francis of Assisi school to provide an interactive awareness stand focussed on smoking. The display provided students with an opportunity to increase their knowledge of the consequences of smoking, as well as understand why it can be so difficult for smokers to quit.
We utilised our Understanding Smoking and No Smoking Day display boards, which provide information on the effects of tobacco as well as the health benefits of quitting. We took a range of resources which the students were welcome to try, including the Smoking Goggles which simulate the effects of tobacco-related macular degeneration.
We also invited students to partake in the Smokey Joe Quiz. This activity is an excellent way of encouraging participants to consider the bigger picture of smoking; not only the negative consequences for health, but the financial implications and effect on the environment. After some of the students had tried the quiz, they had the opportunity to ask any questions they had about smoking.
