The White Ribbon Association has supported No Smoking Day for many years. This important annual event, co-ordinated by the British Heart Foundation, has been encouraging smokers to quit since 1984.

We have been recognised for our work during No Smoking Day for a number of years, and last year we won the runner-up award for Best Community/Local Partnership for our Community Health Information displays in libraries around the West Midlands areas.

This year, Vickki was working with a group of keen Year 7 Health Champions at St Francis School during the run up to No Smoking Day, and they decided to focus their campaign to promote this event.

They developed the theme Cigarette Regrets and created a series of three posters which depicted shocking yet informative messages to their peers on the ways smoking can affect the body. These posters were displayed around the school for all students and staff. One Health Champion even created an interactive PowerPoint which was put onto the schools intranet.

We were thrilled to receive the news that the fantastic work of the Health Champions had been recognised by the British Heart Foundation, and they received the award of runner-up for the Best Artistic Idea.

We must offer our congratulations to Health Champions at St Francis School for this much-deserved award.
