March Campaign: No Smoking Day

During March, the White Ribbon Association supports the No Smoking Day campaign; an annual event co-ordinated by GASP.

Smoking continues to be the leading cause of preventable death*, and while the Government are taking steps to try to discourage smoking with the introduction of plain packaging, 19% of all adults in the UK still smoke**.

If you are a smoker or know someone who smokes, No Smoking Day, which takes place on 11 March every year, is an excellent opportunity to stop. There are now dozens of methods which can support you on your quit journey:

Local Stop Smoking Services

Visit your local Stop Smoking service, pharmacy or GP, or call the Smokefree helpline for specialist advice to help you quit.

Nicotine Replacement Therapy

There are lots of different Nicotine Replacement Therapies (NRT) which can be tailored to you depending on your tobacco use. Your GP can also prescribe medicines which help stop smoking if they’re appropriate for you.

Mobile Apps, Email and Social Media

You can stay focussed and motivated by downloading the Smokefree app, registering for the email programme or joining the Facebook Smokefree group.

During March, many locations across the West Midlands and North West area are all taking part in this campaign, including Chelmsley Wood, Castle Bromwich, Dickens Heath, Balsall Common, Hobs Moat and Kingshurst Libraries, Employment Plus centres, Tudor Grange Academy, George Salter School, the City of Wolverhampton College, and Croft Pharmacy.

It’s not too late for you to take part as well! We have a number of options to support you to run the No Smoking Day campaign. Our Development Officers can deliver in-depth educational sessions or informal health events, whereas our free Community Health Information displays are ideal for passers-by to take information at their leisure.
